Charity Golf Classic - Thank You

Basta wants to thank everyone who participated in the first ever “Basta Charity Classic” golf tournament. The event was a huge success, raising over $25,000 for men’s cancer research. We were blessed with fantastic weather, a beautiful venue and a wonderful group of participants. We look forward to future events and thank you all!

Alexander Rosario

_DSC1074A Rhode Island native, Alex Rosario grew up locally in Warwick, RI. He began working at Basta as a “busboy” in his youth and has graduated through the ranks over the past 6 years. He has created lasting memories with thousands of customers and is always attentive to detail and eager to over-deliver to our guests. He also has a knack for motivating and developing his fellow staff members to help everyone become better not only individually, but also as a team. Through the years Alex has grown a deep appreciation for all aspects of restaurant management, from the kitchen to the "front of the house".

“I believe that the customer experience starts as soon as they reach our doors. From that moment on, everything that happens must be completely impressive - so the spotless floors are every bit as important as the presentation of the dishes.”

To speak with him directly, please email Alex at or call Basta at 401.461.2300

Basta Americana

Oh yes we did.

As proud as Basta is of our Italian roots, we want to take a minute to pause this week and acknowledge the pride and love we have for the United States of America. Without the freedom, opportunity and security that this country provides, building a business centered around our traditions as a foreign culture would not have been possible.

As a small honor to classic American cuisine, we have created Basta’s version of three tried-and-true staples of the USA:

BASTABURGER: 100% Prime Angus Beef, Sharp Vermont Cheddar, Crisp Red Onion, Heirloom Tomato, Bread + Butter pickles and Hammer Sauce on a Pretzel Bun, served with Old Bay Fries.

CANE AL CALABRIA: Two all Natural Beef Hot Dogs, Braised Beef 3 Bean Chili, Cabbage and Calabrian chili slaw, served with Old Bay Fries.

CHILI AMERICANA: Slow Braised Beef, Bacon, 3 Bean Chili, Sour Cream and Chive. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: These specials will be available for a very limited time. They will be served this 4th of July weekend on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night only. Reservations recommended - Basta: 401-461-2300

Basta's 25th Anniversary Celebration

Basta's 25th Anniversary Celebration took place on June 13th 2015. Ownership, staff, patrons, family and friends joined to acknowledge Basta’s past, present and future and to reminisce and reflect on all the great memories we have built since 1989. The celebration featured the best of the Italian culture Basta was born out of – there are no words for how proud of Basta we are and how grateful that our 300 guests were excited to participate. It really felt good. Here are some photos from the evening!

"Basta Live" Schedule

Live music has contributed to some of our most memorable events here at Basta since we reopened our doors over two years ago. What can we say; there’s something truly special and romantic about delicious meals accompanied by incredible local artists. We will be preparing food specials and unique artisan drinks during these evenings to complement the beautiful music.

Buon San Valentino!

Buon San Valentino! This past Saturday Basta celebrated the most romantic night of the year "under 1,000 roses". The gorgeous view and soft smell of the fresh flowers brought out the best in both our staff and guests and the food and service were Basta at its best. Our “Night of 1,000 Roses” may be over, but the memories from this incredible night lives on in our photos, which you can enjoy below. Valentine's Day Dinner 2015

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, Basta is thrilled to announce our live entertainment and menu for the evening! Join us for our prixe fixe menu at $75 per person. We’re featuring incredible dishes influenced by romantic ingredients and the Italian countryside.Starting at 8pm we will also be hosting Steven Palumbo live in our dining room. Enjoy your romantic four course meal while he croons the classics. Touring the country as Dean Martin in the Rat Pack, Steven is a local legend for his incredible performances.

Steven Palumbo’s Biography, taken from his facebook page:

Currently best known for his portrayal of Dean Martin in a ‘Rat Pack’ impression, Palumbo’s powerful voice and personal charm play well to fans throughout New England and indeed all along the East Coast.

A natural entertainer, Palumbo began singing during his childhood in Providence, Rhode Island. He took voice lessons and grew up loving all kinds of music. In fact, he was spotlighted early on when selected for the prestigious Barrington Boys Choir. Through that opportunity, he appeared in the operas Carmen and Tosca at the Providence Performing Arts Center. Roles in musical theatre followed. Though he later graduated from Ithaca College in New York with a degree in special education, Palumbo never lost his ease onstage. A teacher by day, he sings professionally by night, and audiences applaud this doubly-talented individual.

Adding to Palumbo’s intrigue is his “semi-fluency” in Italian. “When I was in college, I was in an Italian honor society,” he said, “and my Italian heritage gives me a good ear for the language.” Indeed, his voice seems particularly poignant and rich when singing the heartbreaking lyrics of Con te Partirò (popularized as Time to Say Goodbye) and Ritorna Me. They are favorites with his audiences, and much requested during live shows.

Seats for this incredible evening are filling fast, so please call 401.461.2300 for reservations!

Buon Anno!

This past Wednesday night Basta brought in the New Year in style. Our party was packed and lively into the early morning hours and many fun memories were made. Thank you to all our guests for spending this special night with us – we hope you enjoyed the food, atmosphere and entertainment. All our best in 2015!

Our 1 Year Grand-Reopening Anniversary!

What we looked like just over a year ago during our extensive renovation! Basta is thrilled to announce that we have reached a huge milestone – it has been one year since our extensive remodel was completed and we reopened. The journey this past year has been truly amazing, with great people coming through our doors and equally great food coming out of our kitchen.

We want to thank everyone not only in Pawtuxet Village and Rhode Island, but also everyone who has visited us or worked with us from all corners of the globe. From Napoli to Little Italy, we have had an overwhelming response in the past year that we are truly humbled by and grateful for.

Just as excitingly, Summer 2014 marks the 25th anniversary since Basta originally opened its doors in 1989. Stay tuned, we’ve got big plans.

Take a look at some of our biggest firsts since the renovation below.

Many thanks, The Basta Team

Tony Cerbo, Live For Valentine's Day

Tony Valentines DayBasta is thrilled to announce our live entertainment for Valentines day. Join us on Friday, December 14th 2014 for jazz stylings of fan favorite, Tony Cerbo. Listen to him croon the biggest hits from greats like Michael Buble, Frank Sinatra, and others! Tony Cerbo's Biography, taken from his facebook page:

Breaking into the music scene in June of 2008, Tony Cerbo hit New England by storm. His extraordinary number of performances in the last several years is an indication of his phenomenal talent and the respect he has earned in the performers’ circuit.

Beyond his local gigs, Tony has performed in venues in Boston, New York, and Las Vegas. His ever-present natural spontaneity and heart and soul make his delivery exhilarating, and his audiences engaged and energized. The media has deemed him, “The next best thing to Michael Buble’ himself.” In response to this, however, Tony’s admirable modesty is refreshing when he comments that he is simply doing what he loves to do - to sing with all his heart, ultimately delighting his audiences.

Tony is a native of Johnston, Rhode Island. His childhood memories of the recorded sounds of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, and Dean Martin playing in his home became the stimulus for his singing career. His ability to make the music of the “Rat Pack” come alive once again is only rivaled by his accomplished renditions of the songs of Michael Buble’, Elvis Presley, and Elton John, to name a few. Tony Cerbo’s passion for music brings sentiment, romance, and excitement to his innovative shows.

In addition we will have a special menu just for the most romantic night of the year. We are taking reservations now - hurry, seats are filling fast!

Fall/Winter Menu Now in Service

One of our core goals at Basta has always been to excite and delight our guests with each and every dish coming out of our kitchen.

With that in mind and after months of tasting and preparation, we are thrilled to announce that our new Fall/Winter menu is in service at Basta beginning today.

With the changing of the seasons our chefs have been able to take advantage of the fabulous Autumn vegetables, tasty Fall flavors and hearty new cold-weather dishes that we all crave during this time of year. Of course our most popular dishes remain untouched.

The food speaks for itself and the Basta team could simply not be more proud. Whether you are a regular or a first-time guest there has never been a better time to experience Basta. As always, we thank you all for the overwhelming continued support and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Rhode Island Monthly

You can see it on the back cover of Rhode Island Monthly’s 2013 Holiday Gift guide (shipping with the November issue of RI Monthly).

In the November issue (main magazine) we are listed as a TOP ITALIAN RESTAURANT (Cranston list on pg. 97), a TOP NEAPOLITAN PIZZERIA (statewide, pg. 100) and our Executive Chef Antonio Franco shared a wonderful family recipe for “Zuppa Fagioli” (pg. 101).

Adding all this to last month’s 2013 award for restaurant design and we could not be more proud! THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT – IT MEANS A LOT TO US!

New Executive Chef, Antonio Franco

From his earliest roots, Antonio “Tino” Franco established his love for food while cooking with his family. At age 15 he launched his career in the food industry and thus began what would become a lifelong obsession with great food and the pleasure of dining.

Beginning as a busboy, he worked his way up the culinary ladder over 13 years’ time. Working through jobs as a dishwasher, barback, valet, and Sous Chef, he truly appreciates all facets of running the kitchen. Tino is now excited to be the Executive Chef at Basta Restaurant in historic Pawtuxet village, where his love for food and service flourishes. Antonio has spent several years in the Federal Hill area in Providence at two award winning restaurants and is bringing those experiences to Basta.

With experience and commitment to excellence, Antonio truly lives and breathes food. Entirely self-taught, he lives his passion daily. He is constantly reading and researching, teaching himself what he needs to advance his technique.

His love of his craft can be experienced here at Basta.

“Great food is made with passion; bad food is made without pride, by cooks who have no love.”

Our Bar Has Raised the Bar

Premium Selection

One of our top priorities with Basta is to make a traditional, Italian fine dining experience more exciting. Our “eating bar” has been instrumental in this regard from day one.

Choose from among 16 plush leather bar seats and enjoy a traditional Neapolitan pizza, refreshing salad or exquisite full meal on top of our gleaming white imported Carrera marble bar top. We offer a full selection of imported, premium wines and liquors as well as 5 draft beers and 10 bottled beer selections. Best of all, just because the bar atmosphere feels casual does not mean our staff is any less professional – you can count on excellent service, perfect food, and everything else you’ve come to expect from Basta over these past 23 years!

Our energetic bar area also features several “high-top”, bar height tables, two HDTVs, great Italian music and a special late night menu, available through midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Join us with friends or make some new ones, either way, we look forward to serving you soon!

Open for business and thrilled to welcome you back!

On 2/7/13 Basta opened for business following our comprehensive 6-month renovation. Looking back on this massive undertaking and group effort, one thing is clear, it was worth every bit of effort...Basta is truly back.

Basta is back.

Altogether we've been at this for over a year. Business plans, creative meetings, design schematics and blueprints. Inside, outside, on the roof and in the basement. Tearing down and rebuilding, in every sense possible. Thinking and then rethinking again to get it just right. Swatches, samples, renderings and measurements. A few disappointments, but at least twice as many pleasant surprises. A 6,000 pound oven. Blowtorches, sawdust and noise. Interviews, tastings, menu meetings, permits and paperwork. Oh, and of course, a few delays, lots of 7 day work-weeks, swearing, laughing, hugs and handshakes.

The result is magical, Basta once again combines exceptional food, service and atmosphere, striking the perfect balance of what a complete, authentic Italian dining experience should be.

We are opening our doors for business on Thursday February 7th, at 4:00PM.
